Cooling Rose Masala: A DIY Pitta Pacifying Spice Blend
Cool excess internal heat and support healthy digestion with this soothing, aromatic DIY spice blend. Crafted with cooling rose petals, fennel, and a touch of cumin, it adds gentle flavor to summer meals without provoking heat. It is a wonderful, simple way to bring Ayurvedic balance right to your daily cooking.
Prep Time:
Serves:
15 minutes (including cooling and blending)
Approximately 1/2 cup of spice blend
Ingredients
3 tablespoons whole coriander seeds
3 tablespoons fennel seeds
1 tablespoon whole cumin seeds
1 tablespoon green cardamom pods (hulled, seeds only)
2 tablespoons dried edible rose petals
A generous pinch of high-quality saffron threads
Preparation
Warm the Spices Gently: Place the coriander seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, and cardamom seeds in a small, dry skillet over medium-low heat. Dry-roast them gently for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they release a warm, aromatic fragrance. Keep the heat moderate so the spices do not scorch.
Infuse with Rose and Saffron: Remove the skillet from the heat immediately. Stir in the dried edible rose petals and saffron threads, letting the pan's residual warmth soften and awaken their delicate oils.
Cool Completely: Pour the warm mixture onto a plate and let it cool completely to room temperature.
Grind into a Fine Powder: Transfer the cooled mixture to a clean spice grinder, new coffee grinder, or mortar and pestle. Grind into a fine, fragrant powder.
Store: Funnel the finished rose masala into an airtight glass jar and store it in a cool, dark place out of direct sunlight.
