Lemon Ginger Honey Elixir

This lemon ginger honey elixir is a traditional Ayurvedic digestive remedy used in small amounts before meals to stimulate appetite and strengthen digestion.

Ginger gently warms the digestive system, lemon adds brightness, and honey helps carry the medicinal qualities of the ingredients through the body.

Taken before meals, this preparation can help kindle agni and prepare the digestive system for food.

Because it is warming and stimulating, it is best used in small amounts to support balanced digestion. Those with a Pitta constitution or imbalance should use this with caution.

Dosha Adjustments

Adjustments for Vata

Vata types benefit from taking a small spoonful of this concentrated elixir before meals. The warm, sharp blend of fresh ginger, sour lemon, and raw honey kindles variable digestion, counters coldness, and supports steady metabolism.

Adjustments for Pitta

This undiluted, sharp elixir is generally not recommended for Pitta types due to its intense heat, except in small amounts during early spring. If using it, substitute sweet lime juice for lemon and use the elixir very sparingly to avoid overheating the stomach.

Adjustments for Kapha

This elixir is ideal for clearing morning Kapha sluggishness and stimulating a slow metabolism. The undiluted blend of fresh ginger juice, sour lemon, and raw honey acts as a powerful stimulant that scrapes away thick seasonal congestion.
