Stewed Apples

Stewed apples are one of the simplest and most beloved Ayurvedic breakfast recipes for supporting digestion.

In Ayurveda, cooking fruit with warming spices like cinnamon helps make it easier to digest while gently stimulating agni, the digestive fire.

This warm and comforting breakfast is especially helpful in the morning when digestion is naturally slower.

Stewed apples are often recommended for balancing Vata and supporting regular digestion, making them a nourishing way to begin the day with warmth and ease, or enjoy this dish anytime of day.

Dosha Adjustments

Adjustments for Vata

Stewed apples cooked warm with ghee, cinnamon, and cardamom offer deeply grounding breakfast comfort for Vata types. Steaming raw apples softens tough fruit fibers, making them soothing and easy to absorb without causing lower-belly bloating or gas.

Adjustments for Pitta

This recipe is naturally pacifying for Pitta due to the sweet, cooling nature of cooked fruit paired with fragrant cardamom and cinnamon. Enjoying warm stewed apples in the morning gently cleanses the liver and calms internal heat without provoking acidity.

Adjustments for Kapha

Kapha types can enjoy stewed apples by cooking them in pure water without ghee and adding an extra pinch of dry ginger or pippali powder. The warm, cooked fruit combined with pungent spices kindles morning digestion while clearing seasonal heaviness.
