October Sacred Ritual: Ayurvedic Ear Oiling

A 2-Week Journey to Calm Vata Dosha and Increase Clarity

As the winds of Vata season stir, this month’s ritual invites you to listen inward.

In Ayurveda, oiling the ears is a deeply soothing self-care practice that calms the nervous system, supports sleep, and quiets the mind.

October Sacred Ritual Week 1: Ayurvedic Ear Oiling (Karna Purana)

Warm a few drops of sesame or Athreya Herbs' Healthy Ear Oil.

Lie on your side and gently drop the oil into one ear, letting it rest for a minute before switching sides.

Move slowly, letting the warmth settle into your body.

This simple act of care is a reminder to listen closely to yourself and the world around you.

Reflection:

What do I need to hear, inside or out, that I have been tuning out?

October Sacred Ritual Week 2: Listening More Deeply--Continuing Your Ear Oiling Ritual

As you continue your Ayurvedic ear oiling ritual this week, notice how this small act of care begins to ripple through your days.

The ears are connected to Vata dosha, the energy of movement and sound (air and ether).

When balanced, they help us feel steady, centered, and attuned to the subtler rhythms of life.

If you’ve been practicing at night, you might begin to notice deeper sleep or a softening of inner restlessness.

Reflection:

What sounds or silences soothe me the most right now?

Try adding a short moment of stillness before oiling the ears.

Simply sit and listen to the sounds around you.

If putting drops of oil in your ears feels a little too weird, oil the aperture (edge of the ear canal) and massage the outer ear.

Close your eyes and gently tug on the top of the earlobe, the back of the earlobe, and the bottom of the earlobe.
