Finding Rhythm Over 40: How Ayurveda Helped Me Reconnect With Myself

I used to wake up feeling like I was already behind.
Before my feet even touched the floor, I could feel the weight of the day pressing down on my chest.
My mind was racing through everything I hadn’t finished yesterday—and everything I didn’t know how I’d get through today.
At the time, my family and I had just moved to Florida and I thought I should have been soaking in the joy of it.
Beach days, fresh air, a new start.
But instead, I was carrying the invisible burden of doing everything for everyone—meals, groceries, dishes, cleaning—while also studying to become an Ayurvedic practitioner.
This is not to point fingers at my family, because it was all my doing.
Things needed to be a certain way--my way!
And I was stressed.
Really stressed.
I kept thinking, "I need more discipline--a better planner--more willpower."
But what I actually needed… was rhythm.
Specifically, I needed a daily rhythm Ayurveda could offer—one that was built around nourishment, not pressure.
The Moment Everything Started to Shift: Finding Rhythm Over 40
It was during my Ayurveda training at Kripalu that I first began to learn how to pause.
And I must say this concept took several years to truly unfold.
I realized that I could take my type A personality into any part of life—work, yoga, motherhood, even healing—and try to control it to the point of depletion.
But daily rhythm in Ayurveda doesn’t ask for perfection.
It invites you to listen.
The daily practices I was learning helped me slow down and show up for myself—not just my responsibilities.
The one that really shifted everything?
Abhyanga—the self-massage practice with warm oil on the body.
At first, it sounded a little odd.
Honestly, I thought it was messy and unnecessary.
But when I finally tried it, something in me softened.
This simple act of touching my own skin with intention and warmth helped me come back into my body in a way I hadn’t in years.
It calmed my nervous system.
It reminded me that I didn’t need to earn rest.
That I could start again, with love.
This wasn’t about adding more to my plate.
It was about reconnecting through a simple Ayurvedic routine for women like me—overwhelmed, trying hard, and quietly (or not so quietly) burning out.
What Ayurveda Taught Me About Daily Rhythm
In daily rhythm Ayurveda, there’s a core concept called dinacharya—a sacred rhythm of daily life that flows with nature’s cycles instead of against them.
This is what was missing for me.
I kept trying to fix my stress with better scheduling tools and more to-do lists when what I actually needed was to find my own rhythm again.
But here’s what most people don’t understand: A truly supportive Ayurvedic routine for women doesn’t mean you’re doing all the “right” things every day.
It means waking when your body is ready, which means getting to sleep early so you can naturally enjoy the quiet early hours of the day.
Eating meals at steady times.
Resting when you need to—not just when everything else is done.
Building in practices that bring you home to yourself.
It’s not a checklist—it’s a flow.
And if you’re finding rhythm over 40, that flow matters more than ever.
Why Finding Rhythm After 40 Becomes Essential

In my 20s and 30s, I could push through almost anything. Late nights, long days, skipping meals—it all felt manageable.
But, in my 40s, everything shifted.
I started noticing how quickly I got overstimulated.
How my sleep felt fragile.
How skipping a meal or staying up too late took a toll that lingered.
That’s when I realized how vital daily rhythm in Ayurveda really is—especially for women over 40.
It’s not just about digestion or stress.
It’s about hormones, energy, focus, and emotional resilience.
So if you’re a woman finding rhythm over 40, you’re not alone.
And you’re not broken.
You’re being asked to slow down and tune in.
Ayurveda sees that as wisdom, not weakness.
My First Rhythm Anchor (Yours Might Be Different—and That’s Okay)
The first thing that grounded me was drinking warm water in the morning.
The second? Eating a real breakfast at the same time each day.
The third? Abhyanga—self-massage with warm oil.
These might sound simple, but they became the core of my daily rhythm Ayurveda practice.
They helped my body begin to trust the day again.
They helped me begin to trust myself again.
I wasn’t following someone else’s protocol.
I was finding my own Ayurvedic routine for women like me—sensitive, driven, and in need of deep rest.
Once I stopped trying to do it “right” and just followed what I was truly craving, Ayurveda became intuitive.
🧭 How to Know Where Your Rhythm Is Off
Not sure where to begin? Here are some signs your rhythm may be frayed:
You wake up already tense or scattered
You skip meals—or eat irregularly
Your sleep is light, disrupted, or inconsistent
You’re overbooked but undernourished
You crave routine, but resist structure
Sound familiar?
That’s where daily rhythm Ayurveda comes in—not as another pressure, but as a path back to feeling like yourself.
